June in Review

June has come and gone and with it, a month of mixed feelings. On June 18, our family lost a wife, mother, grandmother, employer, and matriarch when we lost Jackie “Mama J” Gillespie.

Over 30 years ago, Jackie and Cecil built Green River Tubing with their bare hands. Both Jackie and Cecil worked full time during the day. Jackie was owner of Jackie’s hair salon in Hendersonville, NC, and Cecil worked at Taylor Instrument (Tycos) in Asheville. After a full day, both would come home and clear trees and brush, dig trenches for plumbing, and build what is now one of the most popular summer past times in Western North Carolina.

Jackie was proud of the business that she built and took great joy in seeing and talking to the “regulars” that came to visit year after year. Several of our regular customers became like family over the years and that has never been as evident as it has been these last few weeks. We appreciate the outpouring of love and support shown to our family and staff. Several members of our Green River Cove Tubing family have sent condolences, shared kind words and shared their fondest memories of Jackie. We are forever grateful to have the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people and put them on the river that Jackie loved so much. We will miss you Mama J.

A Couple checking “tubing the green” off of their bucket list.

June has been especially hot this year and that makes the river that much more enjoyable. We have had the opportunity to meet a lot of interesting people over the years and experience a wealth of unique experiences with our customers. This week was especially interesting. We had a couple of 81 and 87 years of age who had “tubing the green” as a bucket list item. We were able to help them check that off and are pleased to announce their trip was a success.

We enjoy hearing your favorite tubing stories and getting the opportunity to share your adventures with others. If you would like to tell us a favorite story you have or share pictures of your adventure, leave a comment in the comments section or become a Fan of Green River Cove Tubing  on Facebook. Thanks again for the start of another great year!
